After oil was found on the Norwegian part of the continental shelf in the 1960ies, it turned the small poor fishing and agriculture land with only 3 million inhabitants to one of the richest nations in the world. With a solid oil base, they are in an attractive position. In the global landscape e.g. they are not a member of EU, but have close cooperation, though, especially with the Scandinavian neighbours. Norway is a significant player in the fishing and petrochemical industry.
