Client’s Objective
The American non-profit tour operator wants to bring the local life in Scandinavia to the participants in their programme in Sweden and Denmark.
BDP’s Solution
With good time to plan and a solid network in Copenhagen and Stockholm, a theme programme was made including e.g.an unformal Hygge evening with Danish hosts where the participants visited the hosts in the private homes, served coffee and home-made cookies, and a safe space for all to ask all the bilateral questions about their countries. In Sweden BDP liaised with a local cooking class owner who tailormade a cinnamon bun & fika classes. It became so much a success that the local papers published an article about it!
Results
- Culture sharing and increased knowledge sharing differences and similarities between US & Scandinavia.
- Some participants were hesitant and first didn’t want to attend the home visits but came back and said this was the absolute highlight of the programme!
- Many participants have got new friends in Denmark and Sweden and still send Christmas cards.
- The cinnamon bun baking created fellowship, knowledge about tradition of Fika – and a lot of laughs.
This case showed BDP Learning Expedition’s ability to understand the need of the client, use the network and local knowledge of Swedish and Danish daily life and traditions to give the participants a unique local experience and contact with the locals.
Client statement
I loved the home visit! Thank you for the special opportunity to meet Danish people inside their home. That was my favorite activity.
