The Nordics – a 360 introduction by curated lectures and field trips

Client’s Objective

A tour operator wanted to revamp a 17-day programme in the Nordics with emphasis on learning and lectures with local experts. The programme should include 2-3 lectures per country plus a fieldtrip matching the lecture theme in the Nordics. The aim is giving the participant a 360 degrees comprehensive introduction to the Nordics. Ranging from history, politics, culture and daily life.
Groups of max 25, and most of the participants had academic or educational backgrounds.

BDP’s Solution

A joint team from the four countries was set up, a solid brainstorm with topics of interest and relevance made, the client involved through the whole process. Ten (!) lecture/field trip themes were chosen. The philosophy was a selection of lectures that covered all Nordics (e.g. welfare state and our common history) and local topics like the Norwegian Oil Foundation and the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen).  BDP selected lecturers with expert knowledge and sites and places for field trips and matched fields trips set up in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Results

  • The NPS (net promoter score) went from 50 to an average of 80-95 (max is 100)
  • The participants evaluated that the excellent lectures and tours gave them a comprehensive introduction to the Nordics – and even better:  they wanted to learn more!
  • The programme is now running with several departures.

This case showed BDP Learning Expeditions understanding of adapting and revamping and older a programme to meet the needs of a participant of today (in this case Boomers/Gen X), his/her interest and culture. The staff’s solid knowledge about their nations, who to contact and the ability to set up an academic programme – and still add a local twist.
