International Seaweed Symposium is held every three years and is one of leading scientific platforms within seaweed science globally. The content of the 5 days symposium comprised a comprehensive scientific program that included 44 sessions with 216 oral presentations and 137 poster presentation. Moreover, the scientific program comprised a match making session that aimed to match scientists with Danish enterprises, who utilize seaweeds as part of the production. The program also included a successful social program including Icebreaker Reception, City Hall Reception, Symposium Dinner Dance and 6 half or full day Mid Symposium Tours visiting local stakeholders and sites related to production or utilization of seaweeds.
BDP’s involvement in the planning of ISS 2016 stated back in 2013 as official bidding partner. In cooperation with Wonderful Copenhagen an ample bid for the 2016 Symposium was prepared and presented at the ISS 2013 on Bali, where Copenhagen won the ballot. The planning process included amongst others budgeting, action plans, homepage management, registration, contact to all suppliers and planning of the social program. The planning also included handling of more than 440 abstract submissions including online evaluation, scheduling and communication with authors, reviewers and the scientific committee.
BDP was responsible for the conduction of the symposium and secured that the program was kept within the scheduled time. BDP alto undertook the coordination of all suppliers including the venue, AV company, onsite and off-site restaurants, venues and sites and transportation vendors.
